These are from my last trip. I hope that they will acquaint you with some of what we do and who we work with. Thanks for everything!

Jason, Jared, and our Arkhangai Friend
Tumur lives in Arkhangai, and I got to know him when we were in Arkhangai last June. He came to UB in October and I spent the day with him. I went with him to the doctor to have some work done on his ears, and then we spent the rest of the day walking, shopping, chatting, etc. It was difficult because I couldn't speak much with him, but I see it was an important step in language acquisition to be forced to use the language, even though my speech was broken.
We had lots of time to talk, and he was able to get some valuable reading material, which he spent a large part of the day reading.
My English Pupils
Every Tuesday and Thursday I teach English to these teachers. The man is my friend that I have known for over a year, and is the director of the school. Next to me is the Headmaster for grades 1-4; the Social Worker for the school is standing. The Headmaster for grades 5-7 is sitting second from the right, and finally on the right is the Headmaster for grades 8-10. It is so much fun to teach these teachers! They are really motivated and it is really encouraging to see that they are making progress! I have had some opportunities to share with them recently about what I believe. How exciting!
Sunday Young People's Meeting
My friend and I work together to present a lesson to the young people's meeting on Sunday afternoon. He translates for us and is the son of one of the leaders. It has been a real blessing to see the commitment of these friends to the Word of God and obeying it. They sometimes sit for two hours on flat, hard benches with no padding so that they can hear and understand more about the Bible. This is one of our highlights of every week, to go and fellowship with our friends.
Jared at School
I am pictured here with one of the teachers I work with, along with some of the students. I work with 4 English teachers and then 6 other teachers that have a "Character Emphasis" once a week for their "home room" classes. I enjoy going to school, though it is a challenge to teach teachers. I am learning a LOT of things from them. They are all very nice.
Sukhbaatar Square
This is the Ice City that was created for the New Year celebration. Just imagine a playground dedicated to ice and it's sports. The parliament building is the large building to the right in the background. A statue of Sukhbaatar on his horse is almost at the center of the picture. You can also see the ice sculptures and other things created for the celebration. I took this picture in the afternoon of December 31. Later that evening Eric, Rachel, and I went to talk with people and give out Good News to anyone interested. What a blast!
American Mongols
My two "duu", which is how younger siblings are referred to. Beth is my female "duu" and Sam is my male "duu." A girl from church made the del for Sam and sent it home with Beth. He likes being a twin with Beth. Beth and I had a great time together. Beth was able to accompany me on my second trip, March – June of 2001, and was also in Mongolia with me last fall. This picture was taken at home – I miss them both!
